So...I believe this has been the Hendrick's most popular topic on their blog yet! (If you have absolutely NO idea what I am speaking of...please visit www.allthingshendrick.blogspot.com/ and then the rest of this post will make sense.) It definitely was a matter of debate, again, tonight at HG...there were about 5 girls versus me....I felt very alone, but continue to stand by this fashion favorite.
It is very funny how this has all come about...a week ago, I was just telling a group of girls how leggings were coming back in and I was so going to sport them! Well...I didn't get the most enthusiastic response, to say the least....I got a few odd looks and that was about it. So, imagine my delight when I heard that Heather's latest post was on this wonderful re-discovered fashion...that will soon be better than it was in the 80's!
To show my support, I have come up with some Do's & Don'ts on the art of "Legging Wearing" b/c I know that leggings are a tricky trend...but they can be worn well! Don't get me wrong...I have seen some AWFUL, even offensive display of leggings, but if done right--they can look so cute!(Oh, and by the way, yes, even I with my big pregnant belly will be sporting these beauties in the fall!)The above are perfect examples of how we can sport these leggings fashionably, yet tastefully...with the exception of Britney, of course!
Anyways, here are a few simple rules I have come up with after doing much research:
Do’s
- Leggings come in all different lengths, make sure you pick a pair that stop at the thinnest part of your calf/ankle to improve the visual effect.
- Cover that hiney…no matter how cute it is…we don’t need/nor really want to see it!!
- Don’t wear the wrong footwear! Most fashion experts are saying to wear these with cowboy boots…but I say, “NO WAY!” I think it would be way too difficult to pull these off without looking like you’re trying too hard! Stick to flats, flip-flops, and ballet pumps.
- Don’t get too creative-keep it simple with solid colored leggings… (a little trim on the bottom of detailed lace is okay) but when you see the striped or polka-dot ones that you just can’t resist-then think of Britney and how ridiculous she looked!!!
I know that some people are STILL not going to like the leggings-look, but they are WAY better than the Skinny Jeans that are coming in….yuck! I would wear leggings over skinny jeans anyday! Have you SEEN those?

I have to say I am very impressed by your research and indepth thought on this subject. As much as I am utterly disgusted by the thought of them, I think you will be an adorable little pregnant lady in them. If anyone can pull them off, you can. Who knows..you may look so cute you might change all of our minds! However, you seemed to have had some tough competition last night at HG. I don't know if many of us will budge..but nice efforts!
Maybe I just need to come with you when you purchase these leggings that you speak of. We should probably make a shopping trip to The Woodlands to grasp the full effect of this latest trend. I will even play dress up.
First, I need to seek the approval/disapproval from my hubby. He isn't one to jump on the fashion bandwagon so this may be a little too trendy for him. He prefers to stick to your basic polo shirt and jeans.....always classic, always in.
Well I'll have you know that I would like to be included in this shopping trip to the Woodlands ladies! I want to see Kirby try them on so I can see what she has in mind for this mind boggling subject. I bet we could get lyns in a pair too. You would probably have to tie me down for them to even graze my skin. But I would be very willing to tag along and watch the dress up! Lyns..always the excellent wife..getting approval from Jason. What an awesome mentor I had!
First, I would like to point out that up this point, I have merely 'stalked' all this crazy LHBC blogging, but when it comes to such a controversial issue such as this..I just had to jump in. So, I would like to note that this is my first blog comment ever...
That said, I was orginally on the fence about the leggings issue. My first vision at the word 'leggings' was me in 3rd grade in the prime of my awkward stage (picture thick glasses and bubble watches) with black leggings tucked into socks and an XL t-shirt fashionably tied up to my hip with a colorful scrunchy of some sort....Can we say, AWFUL?
So needless to say, I was a bit skeptical about this new fashion trend...
However..Kirby, you have officially won me over and might want to consider a career in fasion journalism. I think this new fashion is the perfect combination of retro and sass...not to mention modesty (and we all love that, right?) The 'legging-look' is highly versatile, able to be worn by women of all sizes, ages, and styles...particularly adorable pregnant women:)
So, I would definitely like to be included in this Legging Workshop outing to the Woodlands. Although I am officially a fan of the leggings, I also know that they can be worn VERY badly and would hate to add to this 'anti-legging' campaign by the wrong choice of how to wear them. Kirby, you can be our legging fashion coordinator...
Great job on the research and presentation...all those classes in marketing are certainly paying off. Perhaps you and you husband could put together a tutorial on the DO's and DON'ts complete with pictures and sound effects?

I'm not going to the Woodlands, because the car makes me crazy...BUT...I will be the first to purchase and wear a Kirby approved outfit if you can purchase it with a debit card via internet. Find me an outfit...and I'll sport it on a LH stage near you! I'm not "sceered!"
yes, I totally agree with Heather that if Cate and Kirby wear them, we would be cool by association. Even though I would feel like a goof, I would tell myself that I looked awesome because I was walking next to these 2 gals. on second thought, will I still be cool if I'm just in my jeans walking next to them and not these heinous leggings?
p.s. ok, so being a "blog commenter" is my new thing to do while I'm at work. I am now going to officially be getting paid to comment on your blogs.(don't you wish you had my job?) So you people need to step it up and start leaving more comments with me so I'll have something to do.
larra, larra...if you are going to come to the woodlands 'legging' bonanza...you must stop referring to this new style with phrases such as 'utterly disgusting' and 'heinous'!!
SICK ME OUT! Skinny Jeans???? Aren't those the spandex nightmares appearing to be jeans? I don't think those were ever good.
YUP! They're hideous, Lyns! And...if you want to be fashionable this fall...that's your choice-skinny jeans or leggings!
